This page will show roses grown and some actually bred in Thornaby. My hobby is growing and exhibiting roses at national as well as local shows. Over the past couple of years I have had a dabble at hybridising my own roses by cross pollinating varieties. Each seedling is a totally new variety although it may resemble one of its parents. My ambition is to breed a series of roses and name them after Thornaby and parts of the town.

Bred from roses surrounding the Airman’s statue. The seed parent is a red and the pollen parent is white and both are 5 leaf blooms. This is the second year for the plant and it has frown massively over the winter and last autumn. It is now about two foot in all directions with some large trusses of buds forming. Picture 10.06.2009 If this lasts another year I would like to name it Thornaby Airman. Miniature Rose.
A month later on and the bush is thriving despite the hot temperatures. Flowers are getting bigger and possibly could class as a small floribunda.
