Thornaby Fire Station
Thornaby Fire Station is situated on Master Road near the Golden Eagle Hotel. The station covers nine different wards including Parkfield, Ingleby Barwick, Yarm and Victoria. Appliances consist of two fire engines & one specialist water rescue appliance. The water rescue facility covers all inland water ways in the Cleveland Area and River Tees. Thornaby Fire fighters are trained to undertake rescues by utilising two rescue boats or the use of specialist swimmers. These wards differ greatly from affluent to socially deprived areas. Fire fighters both at Thornaby and throughout Cleveland Fire and Rescue Service are committed to helping and protecting the people that they serve. Community Activity plays a large part in Cleveland Fire and Rescue Services commitment to the public.
Initiatives such as visits to local schools to educate children in the danger of fire and water rescue, arson audits designed to reduce the number of arson incidents and of course Home Fire Safety Checks. These checks keep people safer by enlightening home owners to the risks of fire and how to reduce these risks. Smoke alarms will be fitted free of charge by local fire fighters if required. One of the latest undertaken by Thornaby Fire Station personnel is the Fire Safety Zone. This includes local fire fighters targeting certain areas ensuring each premises within the zone has the opportunity to take advantage of a Home Fire Safety Check. Included in the initiative are free thermostatic deep fat fryers which can be exchanged for chip pans and electrical multi plug extension leads to prevent overloading of electrical circuits. External funding from local businesses helps fund this. Also included in the Fire Safety Zone initiative is the collaboration with local authorities. The local authority helps in the removal of rubbish this helps reduce arson incidents. Local police assist in the initiative as well attempting to reduce incidents of anti social behaviour. To date out of the 2161 properties within the fire safety zone area 1130 properties have been given a Home Fire Safety Check and figures from Cleveland Police show a 29% reduction in crime in the area over a period of seven months.
If you would like to take advantage of a free Home Fire Safety Visit please contact Cleveland Fire Brigade on 01429 874063 to book your appointment.
