Thornaby Cemetery was opened as a 6 acre plot in 1869 and was increased to 17 acres in 1889. it was further increased to 53 acres in 1956. There is no divide between the old part of the cemetery and the addition although the additional acres are laid out on the lawns principle with graves being in neat rows. The cemetery has had a lot of work done on it over recent years and has won some top awards for cemeteries culminating in a Green Flag award in 2008. 01.06.2009 was the judging day for the 2009 awards. New pictures added on today`s tour.
