I like to grow other plants around the bases of my roses, it adds colour, keeps the weeds down and also keeps the rose cooler and saves some of the moisture from the hot sun.(updated 16.08.2009)

Zinnia are new to my garden this year, getting a dozen plants through our grove plant swaps. Colours are stunning.

Carnations compliment the roses and add another scent to the air. Do get tall and leggy as the season goes on.

Viola`s  grow well around rose beds and self seed for next years plants.

Dwarf Dahlia grow easily from seed so are an inexpensive companion and bedding plant.
